Fripp Island SC Real Estate

Less than half an hour east from the city of Beaufort lies one of the hidden treasures of South Carolina’s Treasured Coast.  Caught midway between Charleston and Savannah, the 6.5-square-mile Fripp Island has the Atlantic on one side and rivers, creeks and marshes on the other – a combination that gives Fripp Island, SC real estate its own distinctive appeal.

Named after Captain Johannes Fripp, an English privateer to whom the island was deeded to in the 17th century, Fripp Island was an ancient Yamassee hunting ground before it became a plantation.  Today, it is a residential and resort community famous for its low-key charm, windswept beaches and ecological diversity.  If you’d like to enjoy all the amenities of a resort without having to contend with crowds, then Fripp Island, SC real estate could be just right for you.
The community has a year-round population of only around 800 people, but the number swells to twice and thrice that when the summer months roll in (a notable resident is famous author Pat Conroy).  Through the years, many vacationers who’ve fallen in love with Fripp Island’s three and a half miles of sandy beaches, its abundant wildlife and the low profile it has managed to maintain have invested in second homes in the community.

The Fripp Island Beach and Resort and its two championship courses can be found here.  Judged one of the “100 Best Golf Resorts” in North America” by Links magazine, the resort gives members and guests access to Ocean Creek, a Davis Love III signature golf course, and the George Cobb-designed Ocean Point course.  There’s also a Racquet Club which has two hard and eight clay courts.

Enjoying the outdoors and taking it easy are a way of life for owners of South Carolina Lowcountry Homes.  Folks here do everything from birdwatching and bass fishing to kayaking, canoeing and exploring the island on foot or via golf cart.  Hunting Island State Park is also less than 15 minutes away.
